ONE STEP AT A TIME

Our Four Phased Approach

Field Mobilisation

Bridge School

Alternate Livelihood

Project Freedom

FIRST PHASE

Field Research & Relationship Building

The team intervention begins with identifying concerns and requirements of women and children by the means of comprehensive field research and surveys. The team focuses on building a strong relationship with the community to establish the foundation of transformation.

Community Building

Mobilization events to set the grounds of friendship & trust. Activities include-movie screenings, festivals celebration, dance performances, theatre and peace walks.

Health and Hygiene Awareness

A wide gap of healthcare needs are regularly met with camps & community participation activities - eye checkups, cleanliness drives, wall painting and brothel painting

Adult Literacy

The Didis are offered classes in Hindi, English language as well as basic arithmetic, to better enable them.

Skill Training

Vocations further become the wind under their wings, with economical skills like - stitching and making crafts, as well as cooking.
Second PHASE

Bridge School At GB Road

At Kat-Katha, education has been the founding medium through which we have been able to make our journey possible since inception. This project gets its name from its very basic purpose to bridge the gap between the community and the society by creating safe learning spaces.

Academic Support

Kids are enrolled in certified schools for optimum exposure, and are supported with mentoring & tutoring thereafter.

Learning Languages

A wide gap of healthcare needs are regularly met with camps & community participation activities - eye checkups, cleanliness drives, wall painting and brothel painting

Extra Curricular Activities

To hone self expression & build confidence, they are offered training in theatre and dance.

Exposure Visits

Outings & trips are offered to expose the kids to fresher outlooks, and to help them meet their role models.
THIRD PHASE

Empower Projects

The purpose is to enable the women & children to practice their choice and lead a meaningful life. Thorough training, exposure and economic support is offered as opportunity for alternative livelihood in the following projects:

1. HeARTshala

Running for over a year, the tailoring project from inside the brothels has enabled 5 women to make heart pins and strings that are available with Craftroots. Furthermore, we directly sell handmade bags, masks and other knick-knacks.

2. Maitri Meals

An FSSAI registered Cloud Kitchen, New Delhi, where 5 women from GB Road, cook and turn financially self reliant. The project aims to become a model for a truly independent venture for the women, ie. learn operations, accounting and other necessary skills to run an independent kitchen. The effort aims to sustain connecting hearts with healthy meals, all made with love.
Fourth PHASE

Freedom From Forced Sex Work

The final stage is the cusp of freedom, where the Didi or child is all set to take the plunge and live a life free of enforced boundations. And, infact live independent even of Kat-Katha’s support.

1. Financial Independence

The tangible necessities for survival are only truly met when there are sustainable means to livelihood. This sets the foundation of strength as well as the pillar of support to fall back onto.

2. New Life with Dignity & Compassion

Set on the values of compassion, love & kindness, the beneficiaries start a dignified life, made entirely of their own choices.

3. Complete Rehabilitation

The new chapter only really begins when the beneficiary cuts all strings and takes complete ownership. Complete rehabilitation takes a courageous individual as well as external support mechanisms.
Annual Event

Kat Kalrav

Kat-Katha’s flagship event is the annual display of our ultimate dream of making GB Road a street of love for a day. The event celebrated the coming together of those from outside the community and tapped into the lives of the women & children, along with other stakeholders. It’s a beautiful integration of two worlds which has transformed mind-sets, relationships, and lives of several individuals. For the past seven years, on 15th August, the event also marks Kat-Katha’s birth anniversary. With different themes like Qaid mein Azadi, Rishton Ki Dori, Ekta Ki Udaan, and others, we have been able to bring together over 10,000 people from outside the community at GB Road. At this carnival on the street, one can witness love, bliss & freedom overflowing on the beats of music and tapping of feet.
